VA Medical & Regional Office Center
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Upgrading the main electrical service at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota included replacement of emergency generation capacity in a new building across from the main hospital. The 1800 square foot masonry building houses two generators with space for a future third generator, electrical switchgear equipment, and integrates intake air, discharge air, and exhaust for the generators. The exterior architecture of the Generator Building portrays a contemporary interpretation of the style of the existing campus buildings incorporating the steeply pitched rooflines, prevalent brick masonry color, stone parapet cap and belt coursing details, and metal panel wall surface finishes. Nielsen, Mayne Architecture provided design services in collaboration with Farris Engineering of Omaha, Nebraska.
